Fake Eminem scammer back with new holiday fraud scheme

Someone impersonating Eminem has once again tried to steal the identities of citizens from the rapper’s hometown of Detroit.

Back in February, Local 4 News spoke with a man who recalls a con artist posing as the rapper and promising to assist with the hospital payments for his hurt nephew.

The "Not Afraid" rapper allegedly asked people outside of Michigan to organize private concerts with him this summer in an effort to obtain their personal data.

Now, Local 4's Help Me Hank team is reporting that they have received a number of emails from folks stating that they were contacted by someone posing as an official from Eminem's organization asking for money for Toys for Tots in Detroit.

If a person did not have a toy to donate, they may still participate by giving the con artist their contact details and credit card information.

The real Slim Shady does have a real charitable organization — the Marshall Mathers Foundation, which was not involved in the fraud and has been working with police, according to the news outlet.

Eminem does have a real foundation tasked with helping people in the Detroit area.

It is unclear if all the schemes are connected.

The Post has contacted reps for Eminem and his foundation for comment.
