10 Surprising Facts About Eminem That Fans Didn't Know

Eminem, a rapper who goes by the name Marshall Mathers, is one of the most popular musicians of the twenty-first century. He made his debut in the 1990s and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down since then.

The story of his difficult childhood, struggle with prescription drugs, and how Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre were greatly pleased by his demo are all things that die-hard fans may be aware of.

However, there may be a few fascinating facts about the 47-year-old lyrical genius that you are unaware of.

1. Slim Shady Is His Evil Alter Ego

In his music and rapping, Eminem has incorporated a number of alter egos. Slim Shady, who is regarded as his scarier, more violent alter ego with a humorous touch, is one of the most well-known. He served as a fantastic outlet for Eminem's frustrations.

Slim Shady was prominent in albums like The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP, and The Eminem Show, even though he wasn't really portrayed in his album Recovery because he didn't really match the topic. Even the songs "My Name Is" and "The Real Slim Shady" are about him.

2. He Was Once 230 Pounds

Part of the reason Eminem first took a break from music in 2002 was due to his addiction to prescription drugs. He was reportedly taking 40 to 60 tablets a day at one point, according to reports.

The normally slender man during this period put on so much weight due to the addiction, heavy fast food consumption, and lack of exercise that he topped the scales at 230 lbs (after all, his alter ego was Slim Shady). When he finally decided to get clean, he sought for assistance, and he even had Elton John as a mentor who supported him during his recovery. He has been sober for 12 years as of this year.

3.  His Uncle Was a Musical Mentor

Two uncles of Eminem's had a significant impact on his life. The rapper was raised by Todd Nelson after his biological father left.

The other was Ron, who sparked his interest in rap music in the first place. Unfortunately, Ron also took his own life. If the words to Eminem's song "Stan" are to be believed, it may have been about a woman.

4. He is the legal guardian of His Ex's Daughter and Niece

You may be aware of Eminem's on-again, off-again relationship with his ex-wife Kim, who moved in with them when she was a runaway teen. They eventually got hitched (and divorced), and Hailie was their daughter (seen above). He also has joint custody of Whitney, Kim's daughter from a previous relationship, even though they previously shared joint custody of her (who is now an adult).

In addition, he is the legal guardian of Alaina, the child of Kim's identical sister Dawn, who tragically died from a drug overdose. Additionally, he had previously been in charge of his younger half-brother Nathan. ]

5. He aspired to be a comic book artist.

Eminem isn't just good at rapping and writing songs; he can also draw well and even briefly considered becoming a comic book artist before deciding to focus on music.

He has a profound love for comic books and is well recognized for having a sizable collection that includes some really rare, hard-to-find limited edition volumes. Perhaps Marshall Mathers will create his own comic book when he gets bored with making music!

6. He is one of the best-selling musicians of all time.

It's simple to overlook the fact that Eminem is not just among the best-selling rap artists of this generation, but also among the best-selling musicians overall, regardless of the genre. With artists like Kenny Rogers, Shania Twain, Journey, Neil Diamond, Celine Dion, U2, and Fleetwood Mac, he is right up there in the top 30.

46 million certified units, including 11 gold, 9 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums, were sold by Eminem. Even two of his albums—The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show—went platinum ten times.

7. He Had The World’s Best-Selling Albums In Both 2002 and 2010

In both 2002 and 2010, Eminem had the best-selling album in the entire globe. His fourth studio album, The Eminem Show, released in 2002, and it included popular songs like "Superman" and "Cleanin' Out My Closet."

His second album after taking a break, Recovery, was released in 2010; it was the result, in part, of his addiction to prescription drugs. "Love the Way You Lie," "Space Bound," and "Not Afraid" were among the most popular tunes. The Grammy for Best Rap Record went to that album as well.

8. He Has Three Half-Siblings

Three of Eminem's half-siblings exist. He once acted as Nate's legal guardian when Nate was placed in the foster care system. His younger brother Nathan "Nate" was born to his mother. Nate, who is now in his 30s, is still close to him and is married with kids. In 2018, Nate formally adopted the surname Mathers.

Eminem's biological father had two more children, a son named Michael and a girl named Sarah, before he abandoned the family when Eminem was just six months old. According to reports, Eminem has never met these half-siblings and has no desire to.

9. He Has Been Compared To Elvis Presley

Eminem and The King have a lot in common, which may seem weird. Both left a lasting influence on a musical genre that had previously been dominated by African-Americans. As one of the only white rappers on the scene to garner genuine appreciation for his abilities, Eminem's focus was on rap.

While this was going on, Sam Phillips, a producer who wanted to broaden the appeal of African-American music, started working with Elvis Presley. When Elvis started singing, the genre that resulted from the fusion of his music with R&B and country was called rockabilly. And like Eminem, he achieved great success.
